Claudia Sanna
Artist Representation, Illustrator
München
Claudia Sanna works as a freelance art director in the publishing industry. In her personal work, she creates illustrations and canvas paintings that explore her own multicultural background. Sanna continually engages with the North African and European cultures of her two homelands. Influenced by the colors of the Mediterranean, the opulent patterns of Tunisia, and the impressive landscapes of Sardinia, she weaves all her experiences together.
The cultural contrasts in which she lives find expression in bold colors and patterns. Her own family history flows into the creative process. At the heart of her work lies a fascination for craftsmanship, hospitality, landscapes, patterns, and forms. She collects found objects, papers, cardboard, and fabrics, and documents her discoveries with a camera, accompanied by videos and audio recordings. Materials that remain with us as memories. For her, the present and the past exist in parallel. Sanna experiments with various materials and techniques on paper, canvas, and cardboard.
"In my studio in Munich, I draw, paint, research, sort, cut, and photograph. I make contacts, develop ideas, and exchange thoughts. This is where book covers, illustrations, and interior layouts are created. And with the greatest passion, fabric patterns and textures that can be found on various accessories. Sometimes in a riot of color, sometimes simple and minimalist.
Illustrations - Inspired by our family trips to the Mediterranean, my cultural mix, music, nature, or simply recipes, all of this inspires my work every day. This results in little short stories with few lines and lots or little color on paper." - Claudia Sanna.
